I am confused over dvd formats. can anyone tell me the difference between dvd-r and dvd+r ? I was going to buy a dvd drive, when I noticed that it was a dvd+r drive, whereas my panasonic dvd video recorder plays dvd-r discs. help.

DVD-R is much more backwards compatable with standard DVD players. DVD+R is newer tech and won't play on many older DVD players. Most burners are compatable with either disc format.

Thanks "The Best Alias," I will have to look for a burner that does both systems. I am surprised by your definition of my panasonic as "old". I bought it new two years ago, and it was top of the range then. I am slowly finding out how quickly things move forward in this computer age. Regards.
