DVD Rom Problem

    My DVD Rom is detecing normal cds and data files, but not DVD's. The model is a GSA 4040b and i think it is a hitachi model. Does anyone know what is wrong? Thank you.

    Try cleaning it with a dvd lens cleaning disc. I suspect though that the dvd mechanism has worn out though (AFAIK they use 1 laser for DVD and another for CDs)

    This wouldn't be the first time I've seen a DVD ROM able to read CDs, but not DVDs. It might be time to replace the drives, especially since combo drives are so inexpensive now ($35 or so).
