Dvd's will not work

I know i've probably posted this in the wrong place, and i apologise. But i recently bought a dvd-rw for my pc, a DVDRW 2016IM. it burns dvd's fine but when ever i put a proper film dvd in my pc it resets itself back to the last system restore date. i don't know much about pc's so i trusting you guys to help me figure out what is wrong.

Do you mean like as soon as you put a DVD into the drive it just instantly resets?

Also what software did you use to try and watch the DVD with? was the software bundeld with the Dvd drive?

it was just media player, i've tried it with the nero player but it does the same thing
