DVI-D -> VGA adapter pinout

    Hello,
    does anybody know the connections to build myself a DVI-D to VGA adapter ?
    I need to connect a "new" video card with a DVI-D output to an "old" CRT monitor with a VGA cable, and i don't want to buy a commercial item.

    yes a DVI-A or DVI-I to VGA adapter is ~$6, I got one for 2.
    But a DVI-D to VGA is a different story. It's a converter box. Some are retailing for $400 too. Although I saw one on ebay for 25. Regardless, a DVI-D to VGA adapter would be an involved project, whereas a DVI-A to VGA would be a piece of cake.

    I spent an afternoon with support at BestBuy, Microcenter, CompUSA, and searching the web for an adapter for my ATI based video card in a Sony. You are the first to clarify the problem. The others just looked puzzled and said they were out of the correct adapter. Even the Sony User Guide suggested an adapter. puke:
