I got a t2885 that had the hd formatted,but no os..It came with the 3 factory restore cd's..so I installed them, but when the system reboots,it brings up the restore to last good working boot, or safe,or normal.I have tried this several times,, Finally I re-formated and loaded 98se and it works fine..When I try to update to xp no go..What do you think is going on???

Yes why in your right mind would you even dare run windows 98 still xp has been out since like 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!
As I mentioned,It wont take xp, even tho that is what the restore cd's are supposed to restore it to..It just keeps re booting...the only way the machine will work is with 98se..it seems as tho it hangs at the mup.sys file..

Restore is F-11 (at least on my newer T-5026). Silly question I know, but you are using these discs in the right order? (On my other Emachine, you had to burn your own restore CDs, so it actually was possible to mark them incorrectly).
For some reason '98 is easier to get up and running than XP. I think it has something to do with how MS-DOS is implemented.
