EA announces $1.6m Battlefield 3 contest, PC gamers not invited

well you know what they say what goes around comes around in this situation PC gamers got what they deserved for being so conceited about there hardware being superior, when they should stop bragging and just play there PC.

Way to generalise PC gamers there.
Take it from me, it's only a minority of pC users who have this superiority complex and it's usually the gamers who think they are sometheing special because they have a PC. Most of us are tired of them having a go at console gamers, like they are the inferior player or something. Just ignore them.

one last kick in the nuts to your pc gamers ehh EA? it wasnt enough not to put LAN support in so you figured you'd top it off... classy.

I understand what they are doing, but this is like having a "World's Best Basketball Player" contest, and not letting anyone from the NBA participate.

They want publicity which will channel into more console sales, but with their money, you figure they could have thrown PC players a $250,000 bone or something.

But being honest, the PC game industry has lost me as a front line, pre-order the game, type of consumer. I only buy GOTY editions from Steam for twenty bucks. So these delays and what not don't really affect me as I typically buy any game 12+ months after release. It also had the added effect of me no longer upgrading my video card as fast as before. But that's just me, so I don't expect your typical PC gamer to be in my shoes.

But what all the Nvidia and AMD video card partners *DO* need to realize is that as PC gaming declines, so do their sales. Alienating the PC gamers by the game companies will have a very strong tail end effect on the enthusiast class components, because if there is no longer a MUST HAVE game coming out, there won't be the same need to upgrade video cards.

I totally agree with this, I think the only game I would Pre-order as long as there was not a console version would be Half-Life 3 /Episode 3. Thats about it.

Although I don't understand why EA would go through the trouble of creating Origin and not support the PC properly? it doesn't make sense if you look at it like that?

Either way, I'm defo not buying this when it comes out :)

Broken recored is broken, but I can't resist... PC gaming isn't dying, it's being murdered systematically.

Hacking is the main issue.
It being unfair is the other.

PC enthusiasts with gaming equipment and high end systems will slaugher people with a gamepad.

That my friend, is looking truer and truer everyday :(

Yea pc gaming isnt dying...its being killed by the hacking. Seriously not one pc shooter isnt riddled with hackers, and regardless it only takes one in a server to ruin it for everyone there.

I believe thats part of the reason the mmorpg genre has taken off so much in recent years. Because aimbots and wallhacks dont work there.

You are absolutely right!! And not only that, but lets look at the big picture here.....

- Who made the game to where its hackable in the first place??......
- Why is it that the coders for these games are to duh to make a game that's air-tight??
- How the hell is that EA or any other game publisher with this attitude don't what I just said above

EA is shooting themselves in the foot and calling themselves an expert marksman...

PC gaming isn't even close to dying.
Thats what console homers like to say to themselves.

Both the 360 and PS3 barely run true 720p and even then its at 30FPS.
Games looks awful on consoles, except a few.

I would love to get Halo: Reach on my PC and see it maxed at 2560 X 1600.

And then put the winner of that tournament in a match with PC players(he can even bring a gamepad) and watch them get their *** handed to them by even the so-so players in the middle of the rankings.

What a joke, I guess they need to make the console players feel good by winning some prizes cos they are still in the pee-wee leagues.

(I'm playing the PC beta at the moment, the web browser thing is annoying but its over fast and then the fun starts! Game has a few glitches with clipping and its hard to transition from COD to this but its quite fun)

Hackers do suck, just as badly for PC gamers as anyone else.

But when you get on a good server with a bunch of regulars, man, there is nothing else like it. I miss my COD4. =(

I'd say under 5% of PC gamers cheat. Even less on a regular basis. And mostly it is because the cheat protection is insufficient and inefficient. Game developers typically pay no attention to anticheat measures during the development and then just put either a universal type anticheat or a patchwork anticheat on top - then stop updates for it soon after release.
Also, cheaters exist in PS3 and Xbox, don't pretend like they don't. Not to mention the fact that there are mouse mods for even Xbox which are undetectable by Microsoft. SO what about all those people that will be in this competition owning people with their mouse? They will likely advance to the later stages of the tournament and then get crapped on when they have to play in front of other people.

Consoles DO NOT mean fair competition. Not in the least.

Controllers have no precision? Wtf?

It's relative. Controllers have no precision, compared to mouse/keyboard. The only way you'd improve a keyboard is if W and S were replaced by a throttle as it would allow more speed variations besides walk/sprint/crouch.

I can see both sides to this issue. I am a PC gamer and I am very good at FPS. But really I'm not buying this game for a chance of winning $$$$, I am buying as something fun to play.

But I do hope they have an age limit on this competition, because I would hate to see a bunch of immature twelve year old kids trying to win it.

How to you allow the mature 12 year olds to filter through then? I'd say it should really be based on skill regardless of age. I also say let the PC players in to set the record straight - so many console players just don't believe the difference.

that's terrible PR to exclude PC players . I assumed they would have a seperate tournament? that not happening?. like gwialo said in a previous post , it's very silly to have a tournament to crown ' the best players' but exclude PC players , hehe , that baffles me. That's like finding who's the best footballer in the world but messi and ronaldo are not allowed to enter because they are too good. Very strange behavious from EA.

This is true. I'm a pc gamer but I hate pc gamers. They are pathetic. I hardly ever see a legit player. The sad thing is that cheaters aren't very good.

You sound like one of those guys that calls everyone who kills them a cheater. I see them every day. I get called a cheater every time I play pretty much but I do not cheat and never have and never will. It is all about skill.

I remember those days... me and my best friend used to get called cheaters every time we played Tribes because we were such a devastating 2 man team. We top-10'd TheCLQ Tribes rankings pretty much every month and would even have people sit and just observe us while passing info to the other team because they were so sure we were cheating. Too bad I'm nowhere near that good at games anymore.
