Emachine black screen

Hello everyone i am a newbie ...... My parents have a emachine that's about three years old and it has windows xp ,The other day my step father turn the pc on and his anti virus screen comes up and says to renew ,so he clicks on renew and the screen turns black .So he trys to rebooting and nothing is happening all there is ,is the emachine icon .He tried the system recovery disk and it wont work ,can someone give me some advice so we can get there pc working ,,,,,,,Thank you

When you said the recovery disk did not work i would assume you used the disk that came with the PC and hit repair or format. You will need to either get an external wiping program such as DBAN (Darik's Boot and Nuke) or you will need to put the harddrive of the emachines in a different PC and format it with a different computer.

i didn't try to recovery disk because i don't have it.
