  1. When attempting to reinstall steam on a pc (windows 7, x64) where I had no prob on previous installations, I get the following message

error 1606. could not access network location %systemdrite%\users\public\desktop

I have googled various solutions but none seems to work.

    any suggestions, wonder-workers?

    That was fast :)
It's good and nice that it's solved and that you also wrote what caused the problem, I hope that this will help a few others too.
