Thanks tedster....ill try it later today, what about the Stop Error on the BSOD, is this the same thing or sumat different?
  2. Tedster Techspot old timer..... Posts: 10,047   +11

a lot of stop errors can be caused by bad memory.
I developed a similar error when one of my memory slots went bad.

Of course the stop error could be something else as well.

Ok......thanks again tedster...ill try what you said, and then post back here weather it worked or not...

    thanks again

weather? I hope it doesn't rain on you!!! hahahahaha

good luck - let memtest run for a while. overnight if possible. The longer the better, but at least 7 passes

bigger memory will take longer processing

lol....ok i need some help on how to run memtest....

first i just let i boot up and it ran fro two passes and it didnt seem to find anything, the i pressed "C" on my keybpard to look at the config and changed the Memory Sizeing from "STD" to "ALL"....

It then went on to find thousands of errors......i dnt kno if i should have changed it though....

Should i just have let it run in STD mode, but left it for longer?

    Help appreciated tedster....(or anyone)

    don't change the default configuration.
Let it run for 7 passes or more.

Then if no faults, your memory is ok
If you have faults, remove all memory sticks except the first stick in the first slot
    test it.
then move that stick to the second slot, test it in that slot
    then 3rd.... etc....
if that stick and slots are good,
then swap with second stick of memory
test the second stick by itself.
    move to next slot.... etc...

after you test all sticks, you'll know which stick or slot is bad.

A bad slot can be avoided on a motherboard, but cannot be replaced.
The only solution for a bad slot is increase your stick sizes and avoid the slot or replace the motherboard
a bad stick can just be replaced

always purchase the same types of memory and sizes/speed to avoid problems.

DDR memory should be bought in pairs (for example: two 512MB sticks instead of ONE 1 gig stick), the motherboard will use the bandwidth of two sticks instead of one and run faster.

only purchase memory from manufactuers known to be compatible with your motherboard. RTFM!

don't buy cheapo memory, you get what you pay for (i.e. 3rd party no-name brands)

use memtest 86 (DOS based and self booting)

Ok tedster i let it run for a bit and let it go through 11 times, it didnt report any errors, but when i started windows it said that an error was caused by cap7134.sys, i looked into this and this is used by my tv tuner, its the MEDION one on the list.....

ok, you know your memory is ok.

So then your drivers for your card are outdated or no good
    or
    Windows is corrupt.

more than likely it is your drivers.

    Hello Gurus,

I am another poor Win user suffering the same problem related by previous messages in this thread. I am using Win XP Home Edition SP2, and it worked perfectly until 2 weeks ago, when with no apparent reason (no new SW or HW installed) my system started to crash randomly. I got some of the messages described here ("Error caused by device"; "Error caused by graphical device"; STOP on blue screen; NON_PAGED on blue screen), and some messages about having my registry being recovered. My applications are crashing too - some applications like Windows Movie Maker are almost unusable.

I tend to think that it may really be something related to the graphical adapter, but I'm a little bit skeptical since other application (not so graphic intense) are crashing as well.

Well, some more details about my system:
    - CPU: AMD Athlon64 3.2G
    - RAM: 4 pieces of 512MB each
    - MB: ASUS A8V Deluxe
    - Graphics: Realtek Winfast A6600 TD 128MB Nvidia AGP

    I'm attaching some dumps here

Do you guys think it is possible that the memory, MB or CPU are gone (i.e. electrical surge)? If it is possible, is there a way to find out what is the problem (like a diagnosis software)?

    Thanks!
    Cheers

I aslo seem to get an error when running a system scan with Norton antivirus 2005, it jus restarts the computer....any ideas why...?

I checked all the drivers usuni Win xp's driver verifying tool (Start/run/verifier.exe)
but it says nothing is wrong as far as i can tell.....

certainly possible. I had a power spike on my old computer and even with a surge protector it bumped my primary hard drive and toasted my memory slot 3.

The surge protector was old so I can't make any claims.

    Help

    Here it is...

I am trying to install windows xp pro and a COMPLETELY new box. It wont and I don't know what's wrong...

When I say "blue screen of death", I'm refering to these errors (it has done these and probably more but I stopped writing them down):

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    0x0000000A (0x40876b2c,0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x807caa56)
    and
    0x0000004e (0x0000008f, 0x00021016, 0x0002101e, 0x00000000)

Sometimes I get the Blue Screen of Death at random, but depending on what I'm doing I can expect it sometimes. I have gotten it to the point of where I partition it... here it is

    Problem 1:
I randomly get the blue screen of death (obvously a bad thing)

    Problem 2:
Every time I partition a drive I get the blue screen of death. I restart (the partition remains) and I have to do it again (till I get all the partitions I need/want.

    Problem 3:
When I go to install windows it sais I need to format the partition. When I tell it to go, it gets 1/2 through the format and then guess what!!! BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

    System Specs:
    AMD 64 |3200+ ATHLON 64 939P
    DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
    DDRAM 512MB 32MX8 PC-3200C2 COR RT
    VGA GGBYT|X800XL GV-RX80L256V 256M
    250GB|MAXTOR 6B250S0 SATA

Please help - I have an IRQL errors!

After recently installing 2 educational games for my younger sister, my computer shows BSOD/restarts itself after you log off and then try to change to a different user, after the games have been played. I'm runing Windows XP Home, fully updated & with SP2.
It is relatively easy to replicate the problem. The BSOD usually says

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Below is some info out of event viewer for recent system errors, some occur more often than others:

    ---
    Mini061805-03.txt (64.0 KB)
    Error code 1000007f, parameter1 00000008, parameter2 80042000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000.
    ---
    Mini061805-02.txt (64.0 KB)
    Error code 0000000a, parameter1 00000065, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 804db701.
    ---
    Mini061505-01.txt (64.0 KB)
    Error code 1000000a, parameter1 ff5e5080, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000001, parameter4 804eb7e3.
    ---
    Mini061305-01.txt (88.0 KB)
    Error code 1000000a, parameter1 ff04ac01, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 8051cd07.
    ---

I have no idea what these mean, but i see that other people have posted crash dumps, so i've added mine.
There was no reference to any drivers in the BSOD message.

If someone could tell me what is going wrong here, and a fix (if any), i would be very grateful.

    Try replacing your memory module
  20. Drewnix Newcomer, in training

My problem was the memory. I ran the memory check program recommended in this thread, and I found several problems.
Removed the faulty module, and it is fine now. At least so far... ;-)
