Same problem - Write error on Windows XP with Nero

I have the same problem and I've already wasted 15 CDs.
If it helps, I can tell you what I've tried out...
1) Disable de service: "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service" because it has compatibility problems with CD burning software
2) Install ForceASPI
3) Reinstall Windows XP without using service pack 2

I've tried those suposed solutions but had no luck. Maybe it works for you.

If you find a solutions please post it.
Thank you.

In Nero program you should have an Add-on called
"Info Tool" Run that and check your ASPI layer for 'System' and 'Nero' you should get a green bar for both.
Also try a test with DMA turned Off or if that fails try with it On ,
Next confirm that you have the latest 'Firmware for your Writer.
Make sure the Drive that has your' Cache file ' has lots of room.Youcan set a new one in Nero Preferences.
Did you use media that is recommended for your writer?
I find it is best to test different brands using Re-writable media first.
Let us know how it works out.

I find it is best to test different brands using Re-writable media first.
Let us know how it works out.

1) I checked the ASPI with the Nero tool, and the system ASPI was yellow. I installed the Adaptec ASPI 4.72 and it remained yellow, so I tried with ForceASPI 4.71 and it became green. I tried to burn again but the error persisted.
2) Tried with PIO and DMA but nothing
3) The firmware of the writer is the latest available.
4) I'm using C: as temporary drive and has 7 GB available
5) I tried with two different brand of CDs (Imation and TDK)

As nothing worked, i tried with another computer and another writer (2 years old) with the same Windows XP Service Pack 1. To my surprise the same problem happened when writing a CD...

So now I have 2 computers
1) Intel Pentium IV 1.6GHz with 256MB memory and 40GB Western Digital 7200rpm (the writer is a DVD reader / CD writer combo)
2) ADM Athlon XP 2800+ with 512MB memory and 80GB 7200rpm (the writer is a Sony CD-RW CRX230E5 52x24x52)

The only thing they have in common is Windows XP with Service Pack 1, and I have to say that when I bought the writer and had the first problem I had Service Pack 2 and someone told me to re-install Windows XP without Service Pack 2 because that could be the problem.
So I'm out of ideas. Both machines have been formatted with a clean install of Windows XP SP1.

What can I try next?

You will have to check a couple of items;
It is your call , but I would definitely re-install SP 2 Cleanly. There is no reason it cannot work, in the long run it would be better to solve your problem with it loaded.
Make sure Windows writing software is turned off, and disable auto start on inserting CD/DVD's
Make sure you have cleaned the writer with a cd cleaner disk etc.
Make sure you have no other authoring software (including remnant files from a deleted program)You can do a search at Nero for files that can cause conflict.
Nero has it's own error checking/log tool, read up as to how to use it and post a log here, and to Nero support.
You are going to have to continue experimenting with different media brands.
XP also has a registry setting correction for CDFS file system ,I will look for it at
Microsoft
Be patient.

I have recentlyey downloaded dvd programs and installed a variety of aspi drivers and i believe since then it has stopped working. I have checked the Aspi and they are green

Alex , the first thing you should do is edit your post and remove the License number for
Software .
Next I am not sure but do you have the Writer on as the slave on that IDE channel, if so make the master.
Turn off the Autorun feature for that Drive.
Make sure you have updated the Firmware.
Clean out all other writing software completely.
pdate Nero to version 6.6+
Turn DMA on if you can on your Writer.
Let us know what happens.

Um the device is in my laptop, im sorry but im not sure how to turn o autorun featutre. Where can i find an updated for the firmware and where should i get nero 6.6 from. Thanx for your help buddy

Right clk on the icon for your Writer in My Computer. Choose properties ,then click on the Take no Action tab and also put a check in the Always do the Selected action area.
Your drive looks like an LG ,go to their web site and download the CORRECT file for your MODEL. and then run the flash after you have read how to .Make sure you follow their procedures PRECISELY.
You can download Nero 6.6. at www.nero.com . It is as huge download so make sure you read which parts you need (You may not use their Picture software and/or Media player so only Dnld what u need)
Make sure you check the ASPI layer inNero's InfoTool

ok i turned off autoplay, but when i burn cd's it not only fails in nero but, windows media player and cd buring wizard the one that comes standard with xp. I am not sure what brand my writer it i believe it is a hitachi. i checked my aspi in nero's info tool and both layers are green.

I am having the same issue, can not burn dvd's (as data disks and video) but can burn cd-r's

using nero 6.3.1.6

system hardware:
athlon xp 2800
asus a7n8x-e duluxe
512 mb
sony dru-510a burner

system os
- windows xp pro

Media used
- princo 4x / dvd-r

I was able to burn dvd's till about a month ago, nothing new changed except maybe windows updates.

I have since, updated firmware and tried different media dvd-rw (verbatim brand)

I just reformated the system today and still the same error; "write error"
(I can post the error log if needed)

* The weird thing is if I take out my sony dru-510a burner and install it into my dell gx240 it Works without any problems, using same nero version and media.

Any help would be appreciated? Thanks.

i AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH NERO TOO! IT KEEPS COMING UP WITH ERRORS ON AND OFF. I WAS WONDERING IF IT WAS A COMPATABILITY ISSUE WITH DUAL LAYER BURNERS?

nero burning dvd

i had same issues. only posting here cuz it took me so long to find my answers hopefully this may help some others. i had numerous errors. used nero info tool. had to install force aspi. still had issues. looked like dvd was burning but near the end of it, it would freeze and it turns out nothing was written to disc. anyhow, what fixed my issue was uninstalling my ide drives from device manager and rebooting to reintall. turns out it wasnt noticing my dvdrw drive as it should. works now. good luck

Al3x;
You definitely have to turn off the windows burning software.
Go to the drive Property sheet for the writer and clear the "Enable CD recording on this drive " check mark.
If you have other background programs on eg. Screen savers ,stop them.
Make sure you have a temporary storage file (this is listed in Nero preferences)that points to a drive that has lots of free space and is defragmented.

Zippy ;
Nero was the first program to support Dual layer.
Have tried the other trouble shooting discussed above ?
What if any are your error messages?

I just found these items that solved issues for me a while ago,so forgive the double post.
If you have done all the troubleshooting mentioned earlier ,than try this.

These two articles from Microsoft (KB315345,314060) talk about error messages regarding recording software, even though you might not be getting these errors from the GUI these things can still be affecting your machines, especially the upper and lower filters correction .
So as long as you are comfortable in your registry(Make a restore point First) you may want to try these one at a time .
The filter correction you should do especially if you have used (or left Windows writing software running after using Nero/Adaptec.)

Error Burning DVDs with Nero 7.7.5

I've only gotten one successful burn out of about ten tries and I have no clue what's wrong but I'm trying to make copies of my dvd's. I use DVD Shrink to put them onto my computer which then opens up the burn dvd in Nero.

Error when burning using Nero 6.0
s anybody else experiencing this issue when trying to burn videos (as data cds) using Nero?

Then yesterday, anonuser420 Newcomer, in training, posted his own question:
Join Date: Jul 2007
Posts: 2I've had one successful attempt at burning a DVD out of about 10 tries. I am trying to make copies of my DVD's and this is the log from Nero:
Error when Burning using Nero 7.7.5.1

At some point, anonuser420 realize his problem was different so started his own thread, but used the same post used on the reply, but the post shows as Posts: 2.
Error when Burning using Nero 7.7.5.1
I've had one successful attempt at burning a DVD out of about 10 tries. I am trying to make copies of my DVD's and this is the log from Nero:

I'm putting this on both threads in case anyone else thinks they're seeing double too!
