Explorer crashes when searching

  1. Hello.

Yesterday I noticed that if I tried to search for any file on my computer then explorer.exe would crash and would have to be restarted from task manager. I also just realised that if I right click while inside an explorer window then that would also cause a crash, as does opening the recycle bin.

I have tried uninstalling notepad ++ which I installed yesterday, around the time the issue started, although it hasn't yet done anything. I have also tried looking in ShellExView although I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

I am currently running Windows 8.1 on a HP pavilion G6 which has had many, many issues in the past.

    Thanks, Oliver

Maybe a virus or other malware infection?
