External hard drive

So I have a 2tb dell external hard hard drive but its been real slow and now it wont open I click it and it just sits there "loading" so I went into safe mode and tried to open it and same thing, I tried going into command and doing the chkdsk f: /f and /r but both of them just sit there after I type it in nothing happens. I tried disk management but it just sits at connecting to virtual disk service forever. Any help? also its not infected with anything all my malware and virus scans come up clean
