External hardrives and router

Hi, im new to these forums but i'm wondering if something like this would work:

Taking a external hardrive such as this one here and using something similar to this and connecting it to this router.

I would appreciate it if I can get an answer cause I dont want to waste money to find out it doesn't work.

I don't see how that could work. You're trying to create a network drive just by plugging a hard drive into the router?
