hello, i have a external western hard drive, it runs perfect but the only thing that bugs me is, when i go to load up something (a program) that isnt stored on the ex hdd, it delays my cpu. e.g the program wont load untill my hdd has loaded, even though the program is nothing to do with it.

now somewhere i read its something to do with memory cache, is there a way to stop it from loading and delaying the rest of my system.

Quite a lot of loading going on there.. Explain a bit more maybe?

You try to run a program, but it won't load until your external hard drive has finished doing what?

OK. So Windows wakes up the external HD whenever you start a program?

Maybe try disabling your antivirus program?

Sysinternals has a cool utility called "filemon" that you can use to see exactly what program is accessing that external hard drive.

yeh thats exactly right its wakes up the hdd when accessing programs, for example i just opened my recycle bin but it didnt open untill my exhdd woke up/started spining.

how exactly do i access this file? that logs all the program activity.
