Extremely Low FPS with ATI AiW Radeon

Ever since I installed the new drivers for my ati, i seem to get extremely low fps on counterstrike. Ive tried all the tweaks I could find for halflife/cs and for my video card, ive tried all the resolutions possible for it. It occurs in both opengl and direct3d mode. The frames drop to like 15 fps when someone walks in front of me or when there is lots of action. I cant go back to the old drivers cause i dont remember which one they were and cant seem to get any of the older drivers to work. If anyone have any ideas of any drivers or tweaks or anything that will work, please help me!

First you might want to try and reduce the AGP aperature size in the bios to something lower like 64MB or even 32MB. If this doesn't help try going from AGP 4x down to 2x and see what happens. I read a review a couple of days ago that compared AGP 4x, 2x, and 1x and the differences were very few and subtle. Very small differences in FPS were seen. I'll try and find it again and post it here.

Next, you might want to try reinstalling both OpenGL and DirectX. This has helped some people in the past with their problem. Or trying running dxdiag throught the Run command and tabbing through the boxes until you find under the display tab the ability to enable or disable Direct 3D Acceleration. Try disabling and the reenabling this feature.

Here is a couple of links to some drivers that might help you out:

This should help with your installation of the drivers:

As far as a complete uninstallation of the drivers I'm not sure how to do that as I've never owned an ATI. I'm sure someone else here knows how to though. I would try uninstalling it from the Control Panel first, then doing a search for ati and see if anything comes up. Also, try looking ,after you did the Control Panel uninstall, in your Windows directory and see if there are any files still left from the old ATI drivers.

Hope some of this helps!!! If you need any more help I'll try my best to assist you.

I used to have this same problem. But one day I think it just decided to fix itself. I usually average around 30-40 in a heated battle. But I have seen it go down to as low as 6 from time to time. I actually haven' t played counterstrike in over 6 or 7 months, so I am kind of out of the loop on how it performs. But one thing I would suggest is running it in compatibility mode. Just give that a shot.

Do you uninstall the new ones before installing the old ones ? Even after uninstalling, you should do a search for ati*.* files in your WINNT directory & erase everything you find ( you can always make a backup just in case ).

Well I did find drivers (Second to the oldest ones) that gave me good fps, however, my TV and the all-in-wonder aspects of the card doesnt work with that driver, maybe if i try the older software...Thanks for your help everyone. THis is a really great forum.

I've had similar problems also, although not with an AIW. I have the latest drivers installed, and UT doesn't run as fast as it used to with the 7075 drivers. However now Cubase 5.1 works perfectly, without any artifacts. I can't explain it; apparently the added stability comes with a price.

Well glad to see you got your FPS back up, but that stinks that the rest of your card doesnt' work now. I'm not sure what to tell you about that. I have not had problems with mine. I hope you get it figured out though.
