It may have been out for almost three months now, but, thanks to the sheer number of things there are to do in the game, a lot of people are still playing Fallout 4. For those who are continuing to explore post-apocalyptic Boston, a new update has been just been released which brings such a large number of improvements it may tempt lapsed players to return to Bethesda’s world.

Patch 1.3’s biggest feature for PC gamers is the introduction of a new ambient occlusion setting (HBAO+), which should add some richer, more detailed and realistic effects to the game.

Owners of Nvidia GPUs, meanwhile, will now see new weapon debris effects. There’s also improved “ESDF” remapping support in Workshop mode.

In addition to the visual improvements, the patch will add a status menu for your settlers and fixes a number of bugs, including one that stopped players from progressing in the game’s story by locking off the Railroad resistance group’s headquarters if certain tasks were completed in the ‘wrong’ order. It’ll also stop your companions from being permanently stuck with radiation poisoning and fixes “an issue where Vault 81 residents would not dismember correctly,” which is something everyone will surely appreciate.

Fallout 4 should run a lot smoother once the update is installed, and structures in the workshop mode will snap together a lot easier – an issue many people found annoying.

If, like me, you recently left Fallout 4 to move onto new titles, then you may want to boot it up once again to see how much effect this patch has. It could add quite a few more hours of life to the game before the DLCs start to arrive.

Here are the full patch notes:

  • New ambient occlusion setting, HBAO+ (PC)
  • New weapon debris effects (PC NVIDIA cards)
  • Added status menu for settlers in your settlements

I'm still waiting for this games price to drop to something a bit more realistic before I check it out.
It'll probably drop down to about $40 during steams summer sale, but you probably won't see a price drop any sooner than that. They usually do a minor price drop at the release of new DLC, but nothing significant.

This patch fixes nothing compared to how many bugs there are and as far as I'm concerned the game is still in an alpha like state. Shameful considering The Witcher 3 had patches coming out much more quickly and were much more substantial. That and it released with less issues.

We don't need another untested SSAO type, thank you nvidia.

I've played for more than 100 hours and have yet to experience a single bug other than McCready's Perk.

My experience invalidates yours.

That's fine, I'm patient, I can wait.

I've played for more than 1,000 hours on fallout 4 alone and I've been a mod author for every Bethesda game with at least 2 mods for each one. No, my experience far outweighs yours. The only things your experience "invalidates" is your right to remain modest. Should I give you a cookie, being one of the very few people not having issues with the bugfest that is fallout 4? Even more, I sincerely dout you are being completely honest about only finding one bug. Either way, it's impossible for you to prove.

At least half of that time is for mod purposes. I've still yet to hear back from you on how your 100+ hours somehow invalidates other's opinions that haven't played as much. You're just another regular person looking at the game in a non technical aspect, same as most people. On top of that, the statement I issued, in that Fallout 4 being very buggy, is backed by nearly every major critical review that's out there and many other's personal opinions.

Now I know I'm being let on by a troll who's probably typing this on some non-traditional device but I'll find it amusing if you attempt to justify why your opinion over-turns the par for the course we've see for Fallout 4. Go on, I'll wait.

I haven't run into any game breaking bug, l33t m0d3r g4m3r.

I am astonished that people have finished this game and have moved on. maybe my game playing is WAY different than others because I had this game on day 1 and I have taken my sweet *** time and only have I figure 35% of the game done or even opened. I don't understand the rush to complete the game in the 1st 3 or 4 weeks. mind boggling the need to beat the game so fast.

I'm like amichalski81 I take my time and just play I've even got to lvl 40 and started over because I learned better ways doing things and I like it. As far as bugs I've had people lock up, get stuck, one time one of my followers wouldn't get up so they sat there lol not much.

Other than the game crashing on me exactly one time, I have had no problems with this game. I was once pinned behind a couch and a wall for like 30 seconds, but that was just a slight annoyance. I have a friend who plays on PC and another on Xbox and I havent heard them make any complaints. Thats not to say they havent had any issues, they have just never brought it up in conversation. Maybe it is a regional thing, I don't know.

I've probably visited 70% of the locations and I'm gathering quests, going directly to marked quest spots and walking between locations I haven't visited yet... just over 100 hours so far. The only thing I can think of is that I check every nook and corner cause I'm an OCD looter.

I encountered over 10 bugs in my first hour and still encounter bugs. My Weapons turn invisible, NPCs teleport into the sky when they die, clipping geometry in many places, far too many NavMesh errors which blocks NPCs from walking down stairs, Occlusion issues, NPCs repeating lines over and over, ect, ect.

I get what you're saying, and have come across many minor annoying bugs in about 200 hours of playing, but the only truly game-breaking bug is the occasional crash. I understand you seeing more bugs being a modder, but to be so negative about many bugs being addressed and fixed is kinda petty. They're not going to fix all bugs every time, and all bugs are not created equal. I'm sure they are working on the other bugs currently, and maybe they just have taken longer to correct. Feel free to rage at me for disagreeing with you, just know that you are not there at Bethesda, so you have no way of knowing what they're doing. They made a game that is still fun despite being broken, so I think you should be a little more logical about your expectations.

P.S. You mean etc. It is an abbreviation for ET Cetera, not Et CeTera.

I don't need to be at Bethesda to see they are doing less than everyone else.

You can't really expect a game as complex as FO4 to be the same amount of work debugging as any other game. And yes, you *do* need to be there to know what they are doing, and how much actual work they have put into it. Unless your elitist attitude is a direct result of being the only omniscient person in existence.

First off, I know what's it's like to work on Bethesda games. I've made mods for all the Bethesda games. I probably have more experience making game levels than half the Bethesda staff and I've personally contributed to the unofficial skyrim patch and unofficial fallout 3 patch. My experience isn't hearsay, it's reality. What I find particularly annoying is people like you who defend crappy business practices like Bethesda's even though you don't know a lick about Bethesda games.

The only experience you have to attribute to your name is defending fallout's vanity, and let me tell you, what a lost cause that is. No, us modders will wipe Bethesda's behind again because frankly the can't fix bugs to save their life.

Oh no no I've been around for 10,000 years and created the people who designed the game, my experience outways yours!

Let's recap -
You come out of the gate with the inane drivle of "thousands of bugs" and "unplayable alpha" but make sure to praise the witcher...

Then you support your claims with how many thousands of hours you spend (I should should clarify as waste) playing and supporting the community of Bethesda games which are so buggy as to be unplayable but are sure to distinguish that you do not work for Bethesda but instead choose to do this in your free time.

Compound this with the fact that FO4 is about 3 months old and you've spent more than half of year of work not getting paid playing a terrible game in your free time....

I'm not sure where you're going with this other than spewing the same trite bs as most people who think it's edgy to hate on popular, fun games like FO4 and skyrim. By all means keep wasting your life buying, playing, and supporting them.
