hey, my 3 pin fan connection on my motherboard (MSI 745 Ultra) outputs 12V. I have a 5V fan, with the same connection. Is there a nice way to use my 5V fan on my motherboard?
You can take a power-connector from your PSU.
Either use a free one or buy a cable splitter. Then connect your Fan + to the red cable (5V) and the Fan - to one of the black wires (Ground). The yellow cable is 12V.
The third cable on your fan is for speed-regulating, which will not apply in this case, as you only use 2 cables.
