My GF's computer has been giving her a headache so she has decided to format it. However, this is even causing her more trouble. She popped in her Windows CD and it brings her to a screen where she then selects she wants to Format her drive. The screen is then fillied with an error saying that the Recover Console Does Not Load. Then it goes to a black screen, followed the by phrase ' ntldr is missing. press ctrl+alt+del to restart '. Can anyone help me out here ? Thank You.

Ntldr

make sure there is no stiffy disk in the PC. is your CMOS set to boot from CD first then harddrive?

To format

Try booting off a windows 98 disk and running fdisk to remove the partition and format the drive, or alternatively put the hard drive in another PC and format it there.

Yes you need to "boot" from the CD, not run it from inside Windows. To late now as the damage has been done, a' la' "ntldr is missing".

After booting from the XP CD, delete any and all partitions in the list, then format NTFS. Of course you know this wipes out ALL data!
