Hey Techsters,

I am getting a hard crash/restart after upgrading my wifes gateway laptop with factory 512mb. I bought the chip from Best Buy with their help to pick out the right chip. It is a Kbyte 512mb-ddr PC333 SODIMM.

this is the error:

Thank so much. If you need any more info just direct me to the folder and I'll post it here.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

It could be that the ram isn`t compatible with the computer or that the ram isn`t compatible with the existing ram. It`s never a good idea to mix different brands of ram.

Remove the new stick of ram and see if the system becomes stable. If it does, take out the existing ram and try running the system with just the new ram and see what happens.

Sadly, this doesn't mean much. ;)

I second Mr. Hopkins' advice. The memory is either incompatible with your system board or incompatible with the existing memory module. It may work on its own or it may not work at all, but either way I'd take it back and get a different brand.

Just because you get the right speed and specs, doesn't mean it will work properly unfortunately. :(
