The upcoming Amazon motoring show featuring the former cast of Top Gear now has a name and a launch window.

Amazon revealed on Wednesday that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have decided to name their new show The Grand Tour (GT for short, how fitting). The title was derived from the fact that the show won’t have a home base. Instead, it will be a traveling affair in which studio audience recordings will take place in a different country each week – all under a giant tent.

Jay Marine, VP of Amazon Video Europe, said that after nine months of deep thought, debate and deliberation, the guys have come up with a name that reflects the global ambition of the new show.

Predictably, tickets to the live tapings will be in high demand. As such, Amazon said it will give its customers the chance to be in the audience through a sweepstakes this summer. Details of the location schedule and information on how to apply for tickets will be announced soon, we’re told.

Shortly after the show’s name was introduced, the BBC revealed on Twitter that Top Gear would return on May 29. The show was originally scheduled to debut in early May but apparently those plans changed.

The Grand Tour will be released this autumn for Amazon Prime customers.

Sweeeeeeeeeet, can't wait to get my JC, JM and RH fix again. Not terribly happy about it being exclusive to Amazon Prime customers, but hey, this is the internet and thing's can be had by other means. Also curious to see what the "New" Top Gear will be like with new host, I have my doubts to say the least.

Small viewing base will always be an issue, I certainly don't want Amazon anything. I wonder if the first couple of shows will leak out somehow....
