Four years into its $139 million development, Star Citizen switches to Amazon's game engine

All you said is just your xmas wishlist. You even commented about youtube misunderstanding what I said or you just read half of it. They released a collection of mobile-like minigames games and that's it. 5 years of work and they still don't have anything.

"and they make a lot of smart money-saving decisions" --> Trust me when I say that all of my studies, both economics and programming, (and everybody else who actually knows how an IT company is run) will tell you that it's false. They are burning through the money at such a ridiculously high pace that even a small dip in their monthly income will cause the company to go in the red by the millions. At best they need 2 more years of steady "donations", but at the current development pace they will need 3-5 more years. You can do the numbers yourself.

But hey... they at least had 4 conventions where people went to play and celebrate a non-existent game :D

Be my guest, continue being patient for another decade since you like waiting so much. It's your money.

not really the point. what SC is trying to do is build WoW + the next 10 expansions at the same time. nobody is asking them to rush, just to stop playing around
Oh, I didn't know you replied, sorry to keep you waiting.

Your negativity and cynicism is just plain odd, but expected.

1 - Patience is good they say! But also, I don't in fact sit around and wait for SC. I do this insane thing called "also playing other games", I know, it's crazy! :D. That way, I'm not even bothered. Hey look! 2016 is nearly over! Sweet. Rather a quality game, than a rushed and buggy Simcity-like release lol.

2 - Which mobile-like? Bro if you can run even the hangar module on your mobile......... I want that mobile LMAO. I'll flip if it's a google pixel though... You'll be glad to know they made some browser games too ;D. To say they don't "have anything" is just plain BS, straight up, from someone who clearly has outsized expectations or something lol. They have multiple modules running and thus getting improvements on the fly and that's nothing to you? Okay then, let's see you put together a space ship with a couple thousand polygons in a nice environment, with leaderboards, online play and of course all the sound effects, motion gestures, damage-states, weapons and effects. I'm waiting.

3 - I haven't seen their spread sheets, but to think CR doesn't know they need to conserve money would be silly. That's one of the reasons why there's been talk of alternative income streams since the very beginning. But the funny thing is... If they weren't burning through money, you'd still be here complaining about how long development takes. While if they do burn through money, you'll complain about how they burn through money and won't release. Thus as I said earlier, you're in that group of people (it appears), who aren't possible to please, but who (potentially) scream the loudest lol.

So please do keep on screaming for no reason. I hope you have a nice voice though :)

Another misinformed article about Star Citizen. The move to lumberyard has already been completed, and according to Chris Roberts took two engineers a day to do.

Yes, huge delays! Christ, why does the media love to portry Star Citizen as this behemoth that could colapse any minute...

So that's why I couldn't find anything on the site lol.

Well you know media - not very good at the "truth, balance, nuance & no BS" part.

Indeed. Here's Chris Robert's clarification, if you'd like to read it:

I don't see why someone writing an article about some news for SC can't just check reddit.com/r/starcitizen. There were a number of posts explaining the engine change, along with a link to that page I linked above, and since it's a current topic, those posts would be on the first page on the subreddit.

Only reason for this is to be able to sell directly to amazon and of course this will be another crowd funding request.
The only reason in your mind actually. In reality, Crytek is going under, and Amazon Lumberyard provides CIG with networking improvements (the networking in base cryengine sucks) and as part of the deal they can now leverage AWS.

The idea that CIG is going to run out of money any day now originated from rumours from disgruntled employees (who could not have had access to those financials) and Derek Smart (who doesn't have access to anything but a pot of fake rumours). Also, if they were actually going to run out of money, you'd notice with a change in the scope of the game.

Ah yeah, they're expanding it ad infinitum, which is why no more stretchgoals were issued when they reached 65 million dollars, like 2-3 years ago:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/funding-goals

And they're nearly at 140 million now. Yeah, I can see how they just can't stop adding features huh, you're so right. /sarcasm. Lmao.

It's always hilarious when people, who seem to know very little about the project, comment on it :D. But hey ho it's nearly New Year and maybe I had too much to drink and misunderstood what your intent was, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been following Star Citizen since it was announced. There are two ways to tell with certainty that the project will end in failure and likely legal action.

1. Absence of a complete project but an abundance of promises spanning years.
2. Diehard backers and hopefuls believe anyone who disagrees with them must be stupid or ignorant.

This is what it looks like when someone has been totally and completely sold.

P.S. I wonder if Derek Smart reads Techspot?

It is impossible for you to be certain that SC will fail.

1. Absence of a complete project but an abundance of promises spanning years

Do you realise how stupid that is? You expect a completed project even though the project is in progress. That's like saying I will fail to catch a bus today because I haven't caught it yet.

2. Diehard backers and hopefuls believe anyone who disagrees with them must be stupid or ignorant.

There are definitely people like that on both sides of the fence. I've seen just as many diehard haters as diehard backers. That is not a reason for the project to fail.

So it looks like you're just as bad as a Diehard backer. Full of opinion and ill informed, broken logic, yet you're still utterly convinced that you're right, and anybody who disagrees must be a diehard backer, because why else would they be disagreeing with me?

See folks? #2.

Sounds a lot like american democracy, smh. That's why you support US terrorism(based on our former discussion). Tsk tsk.

This is what it looks like when someone has been totally and completely sold(out).

Lol. Anyway, please do keep complaining and whatnot, it's hilarious to see such negativity. My only regret, is that since we're now on Lumberyard, we will no longer be needing your tears to power the CryEngine ;).

<3

Uh, I'm kind of afraid to ask what that's about...
Lmao, long story bruh, in the article about the US making people share their social media info upon entry to the country. Basically I got told I was nearly endorsing the terrorists (the "jihadis") by him, for questioning his hypocrisy & stating historical facts. (What they do is terrorism, but what we do, even if it's the same thing, isn't terrorism according to him. Even if it's still killing, bombing, abusing other people, arming and creating terrorist groups, subverting democracy etc.). It's all in the [forgotten] history books ;). Then he ended by ignoring me, which abruptly ended our otherwise evolving love story.

I think he'd honestly make for a good enemy in SC :D. Do you have a lot of ships in SC btw?

Thanks for your good posts too.

Interesting, but honestly I can't judge that without seeing it for myself.

I get the feeling he's already got him self a refund. I've got an Avenger Titan, might get a Freelancer when 3.0 comes around.

It's on the main page. It was a recent article.

Avenger eh, nice. That 85X looks pretty... If all they do is just make really sexy spaceshipporn I wouldn't mind lol

Better off buying Elite:Dangerous.

I've had more fun with Star Citizen Alpha 2.5 and 2.6 then I have had with Elite Dangerous. Sure, it's still a buggy mess, but it keeps on improving. The litmus test will be Alpha 3.0. When Alpha 3.0 releases, it will either shut-up the nay sayers, or cause a mass exodus of backers. That said, I still got my monies worth with Star Citizen.

I hope the game will eventually release and be a great game. Would be nice to see such an ambitious and insane project come to fruition .

Hard to know if it will or not , you can't trust the opinion of people who spent hundreds of pounds on a tech demo. It's like a cult of people who could never admit they had wasted there time and money but without these mad people the game would never get made . Let's hope it's a happy ending for the game and the backers.

Strictly speaking, it'll always be in development ;)

I disagree you can't make backers admit stuff - seen the forums lol? Constant arguments, back and forth. Quite a few are constructive.

I'm in at over 1K and don't mind the wait... take your time to do it right. If it never comes out, eh, it's only money... no one died. I think people need to realize it's just a game and for entertainment purposes. First World Problems.

The constructive part was in the SC plan from the beginning. Anyone that decided to back the game is able to make suggestions for improvements - which is one reason I backed it.

From a professional developer's standpoint, giving your backers alpha access is one way to find those pesky bugs that give so many other "released" games black eyes. I guess the naysayers would rather have bugs than a working game.

As far as ships, Freelancer, Hornet FC7-R Tracker, Origin 325A. I am considering upgrading, though, since there are so many new ships to choose from.

At about 1/2 your investment, I agree! I have had fun with it, too. It is not like what is available cannot be played. I have not played them, but there are several missions to be had. And, you can also make up your own game play, essentially, with the rest of what is there.

There were some fun bugs, though. Walking near ships in your hanger flipped them on their backs. I think the physics of that were a bit off, but it was fun having superpowers! :)
