Free UN Secured internet

For the past 3 years I've noticed an unsecured wifi any where I've been with in a mile or so from my place & I even asked an individual who installs it about it & he just said he'd report it.
Well, in these past few days I've noticed my iPhone & iPad have automatically connected to it & would like to know if there is a way to block it other that turning off "Ask to join other networks"?
FWIW, it is a well known ISP.

Yes, turn it off and then use your SSID as the preferred.

BTW: *IF* you elect to connect to a router using OPEN settings (ie no password) as in a hotspot, A L W A Y S set the network type to PUBLIC. This stops file sharing.
It does not protect you from showing everything you do to everyone on the hotspot however
