I let a friend of mind change out my os to xp professional. its only been 4 mths since the change. now my computer just recently started freezing i can only type or get on the computer for minutes before it freezes. what causes this i'm about to go crazy i'm no computer guru so this is really frustrating can someone offer me some advice or help.

Are you running Anti-Virus and a firewall?

Firstly do an online scan at Trend. and then download and run Ewido.

Thank u for responding yes i am running an ati virus I'm runninning zone alarm thats what the person installed when he changed out my computer, but it freezes before it finishes scanning. my computer only will stay operable for 5minutes or less unless i cut it off for a while.

Go into Control Panel/System/Advanced Startup and Errors and uncheck reboot on errors for starters...
This should now produce blue screens which should give more usable info on the real culprit.
There are baddies out there that will disable AV programs so i would run every online scan you can find.

    patio.
