Game of Thrones was the most pirated television show of 2015. It's the fourth consecutive time the popular series has earned the honor according to TorrentFreak.

The show's 2015 season finale was downloaded an estimated 14.4 million times, thoroughly trouncing the competition. The publication points out that more than half of those downloads occurred within the first week of airing. Interestingly enough, more people downloaded the finale than watched it on HBO as only 8.1 million are estimated to have taken it in live.

If you recall, Game of Thrones set an all-time piracy record this past June when 258,131 peers shared the same torrent file simultaneously.

The Walking Dead finished in second place with 6.9 million downloads followed by The Big Bang Theory at 4.4 million. Arrow and The Flash round out the top five at 3.9 million and 3.6 million downloads, respectively.

TorrentFreak said it aggregated data from multiple sources including stats from public BitTorrent trackers. It's worth noting that the total overall piracy figures are likely significantly higher as online streaming and downloads from file hosting services aren't included.

Data suggests that piracy of television shows continues to rise, much to the angst of Hollywood and copyright holders.

The demand for higher-quality downloads continues to swell although lower-quality videos remain the most popular, likely due to their smaller file size. Research shows that 480p copies of television shows are downloaded the most, followed by 720p and 1080p copies, respectively.

I feel bad for them to a certain extent; if they hadn't had gone with the iTunes exclusivity they would have had my money. By the time they opened it up to the rest of us; the season was over. =\

Maybe next year HBO; maybe next year.

Maybe if they just charged $5 for hbo instead of $20. How many $1 dvds can you rent at redbox for $20 (free at the library)? It's nice for me who still isn't driving, but I don't watch that many movies anyway. The grannies and grampas that don't drive don't know how to work a smart tv or htpc anyway to get that streaming feature of hbo. Cable should COME DOWN in price if they know what's good for them. It's evident that people aren't watching movies as hollywood doesn't even care to make content.

OK, is there anybody out there willing to admit that the first time they heard the title Game of Thrones, they thought it was some kind of new product line from American Standard? Seriously?? Is there ANYONE out there over the age of 50 ???????????? Sheeeeezzzzeeeeeee

I don't really get the hype in pirating the GOT that much.
it has 10 episodes per season and the show is 'dragging'.
there are many significant things already happening in the king's landing and daenerys has yet to get her 'revenge'.
if the show continues at its pace, I'll be a grandfather before the show concludes and I'm not even married!

Still refuse to watch this horrible show, it has nothing of value going for it. Funny enough most people who try to defend it use the fact that there is nudity in it, really? Watch porn you pervs, you get too see more of what you like that way.

You must be fun at parties

And amazingly without talking about some stupid show I could care less about, parties are far more fun when you DON'T talk about game of thrones but you wouldn't know that, the sooner people realize this the sooner this show could disappear.

Because at parties you are talking about Game of Thrones, right? Also you post in memes so that makes you even more lame.
I don't think that anything creating conversation between two or more people would be opted out of a party........ I also don't understand what your issue would be with people talking about something they have in common and enjoy, not that I go to parties and talk about game of thrones, but just throwing that out there.
