Game sometimes hangs

My computer sometimes plays 'Sonic Riders' with no problems. My problem is that it may take 10, 20 or 30+ attempts. It loads fine until I've chosen track, character etc, then hangs at the 'loading now' logo, although this logo remains animated.
My computer is up to spec, graphics card drivers updated, I've run through the Windows troubleshooter, tried re-installing with anti-virus/firewall software turned off.
Has anyone got any ideas?

First off, I am sorry someone with less intelligence than a donkey got into this topic for no reason. Second, when was this game made? If it is older try running in compatablity. Also, try adjusting video settings.

Make sure to try running it while the AV is off. Is it based online? If so, try disabling the firewall.
