The i7's are overpriced-i can get the new phenom 2 and all it would cost me is a few cents to download the new bios ex the cost of cpu
with the i7 you would need new board and ram.

So? Phenoms suck... It's common knowledge (save for amongst certain AMD fanboy circles such as the Mad Onion forum morons).

The way I look at it, do it right or don't do it at all. Spring the few extra bucks. Get the best.

Phenom II is useful for people who already own an AM2+ board. For those looking to build a new PC, the E8400 and above still deliver more than enough power.

The phenom 2 beat the i7 extreme edition at farcry2 and on some of the other game's they came close all with ddr2 memory while with i7 is ddr3.

Understand that the vast majority of games are GPU-dependent. So a Core i7 or an E7400 will not have much impact on game performance if both CPUs are run in a system with, say, an HD 4850. Bump one of them up to the HD 4870 though, and you'd see a very significant performance boost.
