Hello,

I have just recieved a gateway computer from a firend that will not start up, checked all connections and used a cupple of power cords but the same result everytime, no sighns of life

now im wonderig if i can test the power supply with a multimeter but i would first need to get the psu runnig, i understand i would need to short 2 wires on the power supply but i dont know whitch 2 or if it is even safe

if anyone hasinput please post it

Testing a PSU ?

Look on the case it will say its output voltage, my gateway is 19V, set your meter to read DC voltage, on the plug at the end there are only 2 wires in the plug, mine ends in the standard barrel connector with the inside being positive and the outer negative, meter across the 2 wires and see what voltage you get, if your meter is analogue and the needle flicks backwards then your wires are backwards, if its a digital it will show a negative voltage.
