I have Win XP Pro with SP2 and recently it started giving me the message "Generic Host Process For Win32 Service...... " and nothing happens to my computer except my ADSL connection doesn’t function until I restart the PC. Once I get the message, and once my connection gives problems, I cant disconnect or reconnect.

I have Kaspersky v7.0 updated.
Microsoft update active.

Apart from that no other problem I'm facing.

Can anyone help me with this problem please, it has been a real headache for me.

Well, the obvious answer is that your Firewall is blocking it.

Go into program control and component control,in the Firewall
and make sure that ' Generic Host Process ...' is allowed.

Also, components like 'svchoste.exe' and 'services.exe'

Thanks

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not having the Windows firewall activated.

You do have some sort of Firewall, don`t you ?

The same applies, whatever one it is.

Nope, I'm not using any firewall at all. Maybe way too dumb? I'm using uTorrent and have heard with a firewall I can't use the features properly. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It was working very fine for the very first few days and there after only it started giving this error and freezes my ADSL connection, untill I reboot.

Any recomendations for a good firewall which will not eat up my resources ?

I can confirm that you are way, way, too dumb !! :grinthumb

You almost certainly have a system filled with spyware !

Make sure Windows firewall is running,at least, then go and get Zone Alarm

or Comodo or Kerio firewall.

Then go HERE follow all the steps, then post the HJT,AVG and Combofixe logs in the Security forum

Thanks

Hi, Thanks for your detailed postings, which I've gone through and telling me how dumb I am  , I've managed to get Comodo since it's free and hope it'll be a strong firewall too.

I have updated the latest windows security patches and all of a sudden, my "Generic Host for Win32 services" error is gone :)

I think it's the microsoft patches which killed it, anyway hope Comodo will protect me in future.

Thanks again for helping me, really appreciate that.
