Getting into denied folders

Now i did some calculations and I has found that all my crap (music, pics, documents, MOVIES, ect) IS still on the hard disk but I cant get to it because the acess is denied. This happened on the last installation of XP and I had to format and I DON'T and WON'T want to let it happen again. How do I get around this block. My valubles are in that folder. I am running XP Pro SP1 (on a copied isc if that matters)

There is no security tab in properties...

What`s the file path of the folder ? Are you sure it contains what you think it contains ? If your logged on as adminstrator,and the folder is not password protected you SHOULD be able to get at it somehow.Have tried safe mode ? More obvious things - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810881
