got a GForce 6800 xtreme and have problems to get it running ...

- do have windows 2000
- card is not faulty, tested at another pc
- card is recognized by the system
- driver installation works
but while booting after driver installation, when it loads windows,
screen freezes ... any ideas except of format C ???

Are you sure the power supply has enough wattage and the right amount of amps on the +12V line?

(If possible try the PSU from the other computer in this computer and see if it works)

the technician at the seller's store told me the PSU is verified to run the card ...
420 WATT ATX PSU LC6420 super silent

The 6800s are a big power hog, they used to suck my 5V down with an Antec 480W supply. I now have an Enermax PSU that gets along well with the card.

Agreed, the GeForce 6 series video cards enjoy having a lot of power. Make sure that the PSU your using is a quality brand with a decent wattage. I would reccomend that you get a 500W with dual 12V rails at least.

so, status report:

- technician at the seller excluded the PSU to cause the problems
- he got the system running with the graficcard by de-installation
of ULI AGP DRIVER, which seems to be a driver belonging to the
chipset-dvd ...

grafic card runs, performance is better in comparison with the old card,
but I am not sure ... should I keep it like this or better ask for another
card and change it ?

there's a conflict with the dvd ... I would change it ASAP.

I wouldn't return anything. The ULI AGP GART driver has nothing to do with a dvd or dvd drive. It's simply the AGP/GART Driver for the AGP chipset.

It's common to need updated chipset drivers for newer hardware. It sounds like you simply had older or non-existent agp chipset drivers and your technician updated these.

no,no, he de-installed them completely, arguing windows 2000 would have own AGP-drivers and doesn't need these ... updated ULI AGP DRIVERS for windows 2000 as well don't seem to be available ... even installing the newest result in the known symptom: freezing
