Anyone know whats up with gmail this week? Some say they still can access it, some say they can't. Access seems like it may be a regional related thing?!? Also I just noticed that stickypond.com is down as well.

We have a number of gmail accounts among our association members... none are having any troubles...
What does a bandwidth speed test report?

Working fine here. Same with Stickypond.

I did a google search earlier and found where other people couldnt access gmail either. Would it be possible that only certain regions where people live are having this problem?
  5. jobeard TechSpot Ambassador

    absolutely.
major sites like yahoo / google have multiple hosts and the DNS is frequently arrange by
geography for redundancy and fault tolerance.

hummm...now gmail is back working for me, just checked. But stickypond still doesnt work for some reason. I get the below message with IE, Firefox and Opera!

    Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: "Operation timed out"
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

if you mean stickypond.com, then you could have tested this for yourself
    using
    Code:
    ping stickypond.com

Pinging stickypond.com [75.126.20.122] with 32 bytes of data:

    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.
    Request timed out.

    Ping statistics for 75.126.20.122:
        Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

    showing indeed, stickypond is offline
  8. halo71 Newcomer, in training

Jo, thanks I did try that as well prior to post.
  9. SNGX1275 TechSpot Special Forces

Well, I tried to ping www.stickypond.com and it didn't work. Which is odd because I've never been to the site before, yet it loads just fine in Opera. I highly doubt UMR or MOREnet has that site cached, but maybe they do.

    Edit:
Just talked to Anumati (member, but with 0 posts) from New Zealand. Anumati can get to the site too, also times out on ping.

    Code:
    ping stickypond.com

Nice! this shows that PINGing a host is not the same as accessing port 80
    on that host.

    Gota love the implementations :)

Don't know, guess I will have to wait and see what happens. As Jo said, maybe its just where I am located.
Tracert and ping are still failing.

I've got a similar problem in that I can't go to newegg.com in Firefox. I have to use crappy old IE for that.
  13. raybay TechSpot Addict

Setup or security issue. There is nothing inherent to Firefox to cause the problem... Could be ISP related... Antivirus software related. Be sure you are using Firefox 2.0.1 or higher.
  14. halo71 Newcomer, in training

It has nothing to do with a set-up issue or software. I googled the gmail problem yesterday and there were many reports of people having the same issue as I did. Although I can get into gmail now. Stickypond is still down. As I already said, I had this same problem no matter if I use IE, Firefox or Opera.
