Right,

Lets see is we can sort something out.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Right click on the Avenger.zip folder and select "Extract All..."
  • Follow the prompts and extract the avenger folder to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Code:
Begin copying here:
Files to move:
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\atapi.sys | C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\atapi.sys

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, open the avenger folder and start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon.
  • Right click on the window under Input script here:, and select Paste.
  • You can also click on this window and press (Ctrl+V) to paste the contents of the clipboard.
  • Click on Execute
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Delete", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avengers actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh OTL log .

  • When done, Attach.txt will open.
  • Please attach the contents of DDS.txt and Attach.txt in your next reply.

I ran Avenger, however, the computer seems to be unable to start up normally now. It brings up a screen saying it failed to start up normally... The gives options to start up in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command, or Last known good settings (or similar).

I tried safe mode and safe with network, and both just came back to the same screen. I selected the Last Known Good option and it started up. The Avenger.txt came up, but it was empty. OR more accurately it has 12 spaces in the .txt and thats it.

Also, it seems that uninstalling firefox and re-installing a new copy, didn't really help. The Re-directing is back this morning.

Can you copy and paste the contents of the avenger log? For some reason my computer is refusing to open it.

Then,

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
    Code:
    :filefind
    *atapi.sys
  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

There was nothing in the Avenger.txt except 12 spaces. It is blank, and if you highligh the text area it just highlights 12 blank spaces, same as if I open a new notepad and just hit the spacebar 12 times.
vvvvvvvv

^^^^^^^^^ Everything from the avenger text is in the space, one line up.

Here is the Systemlook log.

Odd,

Are you able to boot normally now? Avenger must have failed.

Can you try and run ComboFix again?

It is able to boot normally now.

AND combofix ran and created a log finally.

Would this virus have been able to transfer to other computers if they are connected through a router, and mapped drives?

It may be able to, what other computers are connected, and what do you transfer between them?

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::

Folder::

Registry::

Driver::

SRPeek::
c:\windows\system32\kernel32.dll
c:\windows\system32\drivers\ndis.sys

SysRst::

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

CFScriptB-4.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

Attached is the new combofix log.

Between the computers, not much is transferred. I have the drives mapped so that I can access mainly music, but occasionally files. The shared network is set so that each computer can only Read from certain sections of the other computers, but not Write to them, with the hope it would prevent the passing of viruses, but I don't know how much I trust that viruses obey those sharing and read/write access rules.
