Hi, I am new to these forums as I have never had a virus before (that I know of!) It started this week, I have followed the 8 steps as brilliantly advised on here.

Although most of my protections don't see the virus/trojans, SOS was the best at this.

I have attached the 3 reports that you advise to, please help me resolve this annoying virus.

I am using Vista home premium with Comodo/Avira anti virus also Malwarebytes/SuperAntispyware and CCcleaner/comodo cleaner and Advanced system care pro.

many thanks

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  2. Close any open browsers.
  3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
    NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
    NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
  4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

problem with Combofix

Hi Broni,

Thanks for your reply, unfortunately I have fallen at the first hurdle, I downloaded ComboFix to desktop, closed all software advised, double clicked Combofix and an error window came up with several 'cannot find...xxx.' messages.

I have attached a notepad.txt file with ALL the error text windows in order of them showing as I clicked 'ok' each time.

so in essence Combofix will not start on my system.

many thanks

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
Extract its contents to your desktop and make sure TDSSKiller.exe (the contents of the zipped file) is on the Desktop itself, not within a folder on the desktop.
Go to Start > Run (Or you can hold down your Windows key and press R) and copy and paste the following into the text field. (make sure you include the quote marks) Then press OK.

"%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -l C:\TDSSKiller.txt -v

If it says "Hidden service detected" DO NOT type anything in. Just press Enter on your keyboard to not do anything to the file.
When it is done, a log file should be created on your C: drive called TDSSKiller.txt please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

tds killer reply

Thanks, all done, here is the doc attached

regards
Tony

Delete your Combofix file.
Download fresh one, but rename combofix.exe to broni.com BEFORE saving the file to your desktop.

Don't run it yet.

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click Rkill and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

* Rkill.com
* Rkill.scr
* Rkill.pif
* Rkill.exe

* Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
* If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
* A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
* If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
* If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
* Do not reboot until instructed.
* If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run broni.com.

Really sorry Broni, but although Rkill ran, Combofix didn't, it gets right to the end of the green bar and the error message pops up.

I hope it's not unfixable, it's an oem version so don't have a disk to reinstall!

Anything else up your sleeve?

Regards
Toe

WOW - fantastic, although I mistakenly ran it not in adminisrator mode, it seems to have done the trick. I have rebooted 3 times and tried several google searches and none of them has redirected.

One small question, do you know how this has gotten in?

I have uploaded the Combofix and latest HJT files!!

Mmm....didn't seem to attach the files!

Very good :)

One small question, do you know how this has gotten in?
Practically, there is no way to pin point it.

Combofix log is incomplete.
Try to re-run it from normal mode.

Cool, it ran with no issues, please find attached the new log, I ran it in Admin this time!!

One small thing, when I went back into start/firefox it said "illegal operation on a file that is set for deletion" but when I clicked this forum from in my inbox Firefox opened, no issues?? confused!

when I went back into start/firefox it said "illegal operation on a file that is set for deletion"
Usually, this get solved by simply restarting computer.
Let me check Combofix log.

1. Please open Notepad
  • Click Start , then Run
  • Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Code:
File::
c:\windows\csdf_sdum.dat

Folder::
C:\d2d05817dcd067e0d411e6
C:\962dbffb80d886b7b6111809124d4c
C:\4cc26d8510de81fa7180fc1ea2

Driver::

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\security center\Svc]
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000000

RegLockDel::

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

CFScript.gif

5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.

Post fresh HijackThis log as well.

upon searching combofix /uninstall it says "windows cannot find 'broni.com.exe'. Make sure you typed......."

Let's do it manually...
Delete Combofix, Qoobox folders,and Combofix.txt file from C:
Delete broni.com from your desktop.

Okay, that took longer than expected, but the Kaspersky is done, files attached and it found one, my others haven't!
;)

Again, where did the files go??:eek:
an upload error saying I have already uploaded the HJT log in the thread! But have saved it under different names so not sure why it won't upload?

Finally realised why it wasn't uploading - didn't scan in admin mode so was saving as a previous log!

Thanks Broni :D
