We have been able to search Google for currency conversions for quite some time, and now the company has added the ability to get Bitcoin conversions as well.

By simply typing something like "X Bitcoin in USD" into Google's search field, we get the same in-line conversion results as we already do with regular currency. It also comes with basic archival data on the value of Bitcoin dating back to 2011 as well. Bitcoin notes that investors should be aware that the conversion info may not be in real time.

According to statement given by a Google spokesperson to Bitcoin's news site CoinDesk, "you can also ask Google to do conversions – if you have the Google Search app on your smartphone, for example, ask it, ‘How many bitcoin are in 500 U.S. dollars?’ and you’ll get the answer in a handy conversion tool.”

The data comes by way of a partnership with CoinBase, a company Google Finance teamed up with last month to offer a more in-depth Bitcoin tracking tool

The open source virtual currency has being seeing wider adoption on other major services and online retailers like Newegg and eBay as well. The move is likely in response to Bing having added similar functionality back in February along with Yahoo Finance in June.

Bing has had something like this for awhile dunno when they got it but when I was looking up bitcoin info like 3 months ago it had the value of 1 bitcoin to USD.

Who exactly, decides it's value? Is the world mad?
Who decides the value of the dollar? Everyone. There's a magical thing called market price. you should look up how stocks and currency exchanges work. It'll blow your mind when you realize that currency only has value because we believe it does.
