Half-Life 2 Crashes when loading the main menu

I recently had the urge to replay HL 2. When I loaded everything up I got all of these Dll errors. I looked about fixing them but I couldn't find anything so I reinstalled the game. Now when I start the game I get the valve logo, the disclaimer and then the loading screen with the fuzzy picture in the back... then it crashes to my desktop with no error message or anything.

I seem to remember this happening the first time I installed the game but I forget how I fixed it. I've already re-validated the steam files and updated everything but nothing seems to work!

i feel your pain

dude i have been reading nothing but many of these post that read exactly like yours. i have seen no reply to them with instructions on how to fixes this problem. i am having the same problem. good luck man.
