Hard Drive Compatability with another PC

Windows has gone haywire on my PC, unfortunatley I have data on my 120Gb Maxtor HD that is not backed up and I really cant afford to loose it. I have taken my HD to a friends and hooked it up as a Primary slave to transfer the data onto his HD.

When Windows is booting up on his PC it says my drive is ATAPI Incompatible and then contiues booting. Then when in Windows and in My Computer it recognises my drive showing the Make and Model but it will not read it.

Please help me I'm sure this should work what am I doing wrong?????????

does your friend use the same OS as you do? if it is XP do you both use the same file system? one possible reason that the drive catn be read would be that yours is formatted NTFS and his is formatted Fat32. Fat32 cannot read NTFS partitions.

cable your HD as a slave or at least, not the bootable HD

unless you have FAT32 vs NTFS issues, the drive should be accessible for
exporting your critical data
