Hard drive errors

  1. I seem to be having a lot of problems with hard drives lately. I have the <windows root>\system 32\hal.dll error. Sometimes I can insert a winxp disk and go then go to the C:> prompt and copy this file from a mem. stick. Sometimes this works fine and then sometimes it won't.

It then has a Kernal load dll type error. I hate to pitch these hard drives if they can be fixed. Is there some type of utility, 'tool' or software that addresses this issue?

    Thanks!

Nothing will repair a damaged drive but you can try and scan for bad sectors which may keep the drive from storing data there. Scan the drive with a diagnostic utility from whoever makes your drive and see if it detects any issues.
