Hard Drive Failure

Hi could someone let me know what happens if the hard drive fails or overheats ? Thanks StuLeeds.

You lose all your information, its starts making noises, this is caused by the heads rubbing on the platters.

You are unable to access your drive you try to boot up

You get the blinking cursor in the upper right hand corner

or you need to reseat you ide/sata cable

Its just that the pc keeps on coming up with this (BSOD) saying.

It might be a faulty PSU but try running Recovery console by installing your windows installation disk and do a manual recovery and type in CHKDSK /R

The PC can be on for about 3 hrs and then it comes up with (bsod).

Drive diagnostic utilities, read through that, get what you need, then run a test. If it passes its unlikely your hard drive is bad.

Hi, I did chkdsk /r and when it got to stage 5 of 5 where it says verifying free space the computer froze.

Did you try the Drive utilities. If you run this and it fails then your drive might be dying.

Never give up hope until you used up all your resources

No i just tried chkdsk /r.
