Yesterday my electric ran out at home as i have my electric topped up using a key meter, so when the electric went out the PC turned off.

I went to turn the PC on today and something seemed wrong as it was talking a while to laod up like usual. Once it had booted up and came on to the main Windows screen, half of my desktop icons had disappeared, half of my programs in the "All Programs" list has disappeared. I had a look straight away in the event viewer and looked down the "System" list and something showed up that i didnt like the look of:

Error: Disk

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block.

Can someone tell me wat this means and if it is fatal or can be fixed easily.

Thnx

Bad Block on Hdd

You need to run Check Disk

My Computer
Right Click on C Drive
Properties
Tools
Check Now

I usually only tick the top box
But if you tick the bottom box it will do an exhaustive (long) scan, which may be a good idea for you

So tick both boxes
Apply OK Yes
Restart
Wait for chkdisk to finish (may take a long time)
Windows will start up when the scan is finished
