Hard drive trouble

  1. ok ive had my main hard drive for about 2 years now and have xp installed on it. so ill be on my computer on the internet or what ever and all of the sudden my computer goes silent (hard drive shutting off) and the computer freezes so ill try to reboot and while booting up it says it cannot find any of my hds. so i turn it off unplug the hard drive and plug them back in and sometimes this will work great sometimes it does nothing. Also on my other slave harddrive i keep all my music on there, and before any of this started i went to my music and it was all deleted along with some other files. but the hard drive still turns on and i can store files on it and remove files from it. so my question is do you think the hard drives are going out or could it be something els with the computer. i just want to make sure before i go out and buy a new hard drive.
