I found what looks to be a pretty good deal..

My computer is a Dell Dimension 4550 from maybe 5 years ago and I really can't figure out if I have the capability of running a SATA2 HD. How can I check this? Every diagnostic I check is so vague on my "120gb hd".

If your pc is 5 years old the it will not run at sata 2 at all, and probably doesnt even have sata 1 built in!!!!

You could run a sata 2 hdd at sata 1 via a sata 1 raid card in pci format!!!!
That may well be your 1 and only option!!!!

Pulling the side off your pc and having a look is the best way really!!!!

The answer is easy. SATA didn't exist in 2001.

By 2001, it was probably nothing but an engineering blue print... It didn't make its anticipated introdution into the consumer market until about 2003 and Dell probably didn't adopt it until 2004.
