HDD acces problems

I recently bought and installed a new and bigger HDD in my computer, I also bought an external case for my old HDD to back up important files on, and save movies, etc. But.. now that I placed the HDD in the case, connected it, and tried to open files on the old HDD, (I didn't format it yet, I wanted to copy some pictures from my old HDD to my new HDD before I did that) it says I don't have acces to the files, privilige problems or something. How can I set the permissions for the entire HDD so that I can access and copy the files?

Can you claim ownership of the files & folders on the old drive ? Once you've done that I believe you'll be able to browse the content & move it over to the new drive.
