HDD can not fromat

Hi,

I have 200GB maxtor internal HDD made extrernal. My PC can not finish full (not Quick) format. It gets stuck at 96% WHY?

There is probably damaged data on it!!!!

You could put it in your pc and try a format, it may work!!!!

If not, go to maxtor's website and get some hard drive diagnostics software from them!!!!

well, I can do fast format and the HDD shows as 100% free and 100% fromated, but deef formad does not work on it. I will try to plug it into other PC and then Put it inside my main PC.

There's probablyb a good reason for this. You very likely have bad sectors.

Once you install the drive internally in your system, run the manufacturer's diagnostic (list of diags can be found at the top of this forum) to verify the drive is in good condition.

If all else fails, a zero fill (low level format) may take care of it, which can also be done by the manufacturer's diagnostic.
