HDD connectivity issues

Hi all (newb to these forums).

As part of my tasks at work, I am carrying out tests on different hard drives for a client's software data eraser. One of the HDDs I have is a an old SCSI (Seagate Cheetah ST3146707LW). The desktop I am using to to test a Dell Optiplex 745 (or an Optiplex 7010). These desktops have a normal SATA configuration (the 15 pin wire, and the 7 pin wire). If it helps to know, I've been provided an LSI Logic PCI Express adapter (LSI20320IE) which I have no idea how to use.

What I want is to be able to connect this HDD to that SATA configuration (but I don't know which cables are required, or how many).
Or, if there is another area in either of these desktops which I can use (not the SATA wires) which would allow me to to plug the SCSI drive into the desktop (again, no idea which wires required).

Thanks, hope it all makes sense.

The Dell doesn't have a SCSI chip onboard so you will need
  • a scsi card
  • or an enclosure that supports SCSI
Here's the UG for the drive

There's a LOT more to SCSI than ATA or STA, so do some reading.

Btw: the second SCSI plug needs a terminator on it if you only have one drive.
