Headphone jacks not working

The headphone jacks on the front of my CD-Rom and Burner do not work. I have checked connections inside and out and they are all working. If I plug my headphones directly into the back where the speakers go I can hear thru the headphones slightly and that is with the volume all the way up. Does anyone know why my headphone jacks are not working. I have looked everywhere for a solution.
