  1. I travelled for some few months and came back to my so reliable Dell Latitude C640 but to my supprise when i tried turning on the Laptop, it turned off almost immediately- say it was on for about 4 seconds without any video but when i connected it to an external monitor, it displayed for that few seconds and still shut down. It does this only in Battery mode and does start at all in AC mode.

    Please help me out.

I have tried diconnecting all components and reconnect them, yet no success.

Yes, i removed the RAM, HDD, BATTERY, CD-ROM and the CMOS Battery.

I was lucky a while ago, after turning it on with the aid of an external monitor, i entered setup and it stayed throughout a complete reinstallation of Win xp.

Now the problem is that it swiches off on its own either when its idle or in use.

Dont know what else to do
