Help cannot install AVG

hi,

I seem to have been infected with something that is preventing me from installing AVG on my computer. I also found some 'autoit.HAR' on my flashdrive - i think this might be the reason.

I work on a XP service pack 2 and have symantec antivirus installed. I usually disable it and run AVG once in a while so it can pick out what the other misses but lately i am not able to install AVG at all on my machine.

i have tried it in safe mode and after uninstalling all previous components but i keep getting and error
" Local machine: installation failed
Installation: Error: Action failed for file setupus.lns: creating file....
File opening failed.
Error 0xe001042c

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgssie.dll: file registration....
Error 0x80070002
Rollback:
Warning: Action failed for directory Icons: removing directory....
Error 0x80070091"

the file names keep changing . . . please help.

AVG Removal Tool

Once both are removed, continue over to:
UPDATED 8-step Viruses/Spyware/Malware Preliminary Removal Instructions

By the way, I'm not sure if you were joking or not, but you can only have 1 Antivirus installed (and disabling another 1 installed will not work either!)
Try the way better Avira Antivirus instead, it's in the guide ;)

OK Kim is away!

This is from 2 weeks ago?

From the 8 Steps advised by Kim above run MBAM and SAS, UPDATE THEM and run them and attach the logs.

Or tell me why you can't!!

If you want help do this!

Mike

Ok UPDATE and run SAS again select and remove tracking cookies, but mainly I need to see that it is a clean log after this run, that the issues it found last run are gone.

For Flashdrive go here read about and download Flash Disinfector http://experi3nc3.wordpress.com/2007/05/10/flash-disinfector-by-subs/

OK you have Avast installed now and no sign of AVG or Norton. Did you uninstall them and run the AVGremoval and Nortonremoval tools as advised by Kim?

I advise to stay with Avast as it is as good as or better than AVG. What do you want to do about AVG now? And have you done a full virus scan with Avast?

OK so refresh me on the state of your computer now that you have removed Norton and AVG and we have cleaned Malware.

I feel you are mostly clean but do the below to be sure..

Double click combofix.exe follow the prompts.

When finished, it will open a log.
Attach the log and a new HJT log in your next reply.

Note: Do not click combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall.
