Unable to activate DirectSound for selected device.
DirectSoundCaptureCreate failed, hr = 88780078


i recent was hacked on worldofwarcraft

so i sent in a email yeah blah.

ok so i decided to go delete some thing in programs that i didnt know about. and i accidently deleted something that screwed up my sound.

This is the problem it is saying

Unable to activate DirectSound for selected device.
DirectSoundCaptureCreate failed, hr = 88780078

Or Code 10

I would guess the most likely cause and easiest fix is a deleted, corrupt, or missing driver

Recommended resolution

Device failed to start. From Device Manager -> Properties ->Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this device

If this doesn't work

Update the hardware’s device driver through Windows Update. To access Windows Update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

• Download a device driver from the Internet, and then install it.
• If the device was preinstalled on the computer, visit the computer manufacturer's Web site.

Important Make sure that the device driver is compatible with you version of Windows

Have you simply tried 'system restore'. It does work...sometimes.
