Help computer slow to start

    When I turn my computer on, the light just flashes on the CD drive
    and you can hear it trying to read something, the screen doesn't
    turn on. This happens for approx 5min and usually the mouse doesn't
    work so you do it again then it does. Its running windows XP.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Sounds like you have the cd drive as first bootable device, go into your bios, go to boot menu and make sure your hard drive is list for number 1
