Help installing hdd

  1. I have been trying to install my 120GB Maxter hd and the computer wont find the hd. it is quite old and it used to work fine. I suspect that it failed when i reformated my computer a while back. I've been trying to install it for a while and the bios finds it but it wont work properly:( Please help

    Double check the jumper settings and the power and data cables. If all checks fine then download the diagnostic tools from seagate and burn to a disk so you can boot off of that and make sure your drive isn't toast.

    It would be helpful to have more information.
    Is this a new drive you are installing in an old computer? Is it the same drive you had all along, but reformatted? Does your BIOS recognize it as a 120GB drive? What do you mean by installing? Installing a physical drive as your primary HDD or installing WinXP on an existing drive?

    Is it connected to a controller card such as a promise ultra ATA 133?
